Shimeji Shakugan No Shanal is an anime that was released in 2013 by Studio Shaft. The story revolves around a group of humans, led by Takahiro Shiina, who go up against supernatural beings known as shimeji. Shimeji are hungry spirits who feed on humans' emotions, and the main protagonist Takahiro Shiina is one of the few people unaffected by any sort of emotion whatsoever. He's watched many people die at the hands of these monsters over time and now seeks to put an end to their wanton violence. The first season of Shimeji Shakugan No Shanal premiered on April 5th, 2013 and ended on September 27th. It consists of 13 episodes. The second season of Shimeji Shakugan No Shanal aired from October 5th, 2013 to January 28th, 2014 and consists of 13 episodes. This season deals with the story from the manga being adapted from. During this time five academy students from a school for shimeji-hunters have been pulled into a portal that takes them to a parallel world where they must use their skills to fight against the shimeji who have conquered this world and are now hunting these children down. The Shimeji Shakugan no Shanal anime is running, and has been renewed for a third season on October 6th, 2014.MONACA The OST for the anime was composed by Tatsuya Kato of the music-group MONACA. A total of four CDs were produced containing all the background music from the first 12 episodes.
